ESPN/BXRL Starfish Celebrity Challenge
Major league baseball legend Wade Boggs; award-winning film and television actor Bo Hopkins; noted television personality Todd Bridges; media and sports special correspondent Heather Michaels; and NFL Seattle Seahawk linebacker Anthony Simmons join the hunt for 400 pound big-game blue marlin with BXRL championship sportfishing teams, Team A-Fin-Ity, Billfish Girl, Sharky's Revenge, The Mercury World Team and Team Duraflame. The exciting competition is an opportunity for celebrities and sports lovers to fish alongside top sportfishing champions for money and valuable prizes, with the proceeds of the campaign donated to charity.
The 1st annual BXRL StarFish Celebrity Challenge, a celebrity/pro-am TV event and charity fund-raising campaign will be televised on ESPN2 on October 12th, 2002, as part of the Billfishing Xtreme Release League (BXRL) television show seen on Saturdays at 10:30 am ET and Tuesdays at 11:00 am ET, hosted by veteran ESPN sportfishing personality, Captain Norm Issacs.
The BXRL StarFish will be re-broadcast on ESPN2 on Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00 am ET and again on Thursday, October 17th at 4:00 am ET on ESPN2. The 1st annual BXRL StarFish Celebrity Challenge will be televised on the top worldwide sports network, ESPN, on Wednesday, October 16th at 2:00 pm ET. Watch the 2002 BXRL Championship Series heat up as Team A-Fin-Ity, currently #1 in the BXRL league standings is pursued by some of the top sportfishing anglers in the world.
The beneficiaries of the 2002 BXRL StarFish Celebrity Challenge include the Billfish Foundation, the International Game Fish Association, the Wade Boggs Foundation for Youth Athletics, the Todd Bridges Youth Foundation, the Jay Nolan Community Center for Autism, the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society/Breast Cancer Research and F.O.P.A., the Friends of Puerto Aventuras. The event is produced by DiscreetPR, Discretion Entertainment, the BXRL and International Media Productions-HI.
